Re: Confusing Model 141
USMA, You have a gun that was put together with a Model 14 receiver and a Model 141 barrel. The C91xxx receiver was made in 1924. At that time the receiver did not have the model number, it was added about s/n 96K. That receiver did not have the trademark or the gamemaster logo which started on rece...

Re: 7615 Help
Urban, I think the reason that no one answered so far is because we don't know what the stripper plate is. I believe that the bolt strips the cartridge from the clip. If the piece is plastic , then it might be the bolt cover. Check if the bolt cover is in place when you close the action. ken blauch

In my book I used the approx. number of 4000 for the s/n when the change occured. A closer number would fall between 409x and 427x according to information that has been collected. ken blauch

Re: Model 14 problem
Frank, Can you tell us anything about the ammo that you are using? Are they reloads done to 30 Rem cases or other cases? Did any work previously? Are the tips .257? As Jim said, was the OAL correct, or too long? A correctly sized cartridge with the correct OAL should drop into the chamber without an...

Re: old model 760
Ken,
Forends from 1952-1967 should fit, the ones without the black tip. The correct one for your gun has the pressed checkering pattern (1964-1967). They are available on Ebay from time to time.

Re: 760 Carbine
Epat, None were cataloged, so you have the classic question---who made it. If you could post the exact barrel stamping of the Remington name and patent numbers that is stamped on the barrel, also the date code, that would be helpful. The s/n is a few hundred beyond the "B" range for the 76...

Re: Model 14 questions?
The roll mark on the barrel ending in 1912 was used on guns 1912-1916. No model on barrel =1912-1919 and 1924-1935 No model on receiver = 1912-1925 Metal shotgun buttplate = 1913-1920 Serial numbered receiver was made in 1914 The gun was produced between 1914 and 1916, the stock and buttplate are co...

Re: Model 14 thumbnail safety
With the added information that the gun has a dummy safety it is likely that it slipped thru without the slotted receiver. Like Jim says, if the bolt has the s/n of the gun, then you have you have a case, otherwise you will continue to defend the configuration each time it come up.

Re: Model 14 thumbnail safety
The slot was put on all receivers, so your gun is probably a mix and match gun. However the opposite is true, leftover slotted receivers were used later with non thumbnail bolts when Remington changed to the hook and lever safety system about 1921.

Re: Some Questions about a "DC-Marked" 14 1/2 in 44-40
Andy, the receiver of your rifle was made in the 1914-1915 time frame. If your gun has a DCP proof mark, then it was produced in the same time frame. Yes, it should have a wheel sight, a number 3.

Re: Reminton Mod 14 1/2 pump 44/40 How to take down
With the rifle cocked, pull out the TD screw and push down with one hand on pistol grip and pull up with other hand on the barrel just in front of the receiver. The two pieces fit together with vertical interlocking slides.

Re: Remington 14 1/2 44-40
You could replace the stock/ buttplate with a good used one for about 150.00 or have the cracked one repaired. It is tough to make an offer when you have no idea where the seller is at, ask for a price at which he would sell it and work down from there. If he won't give a price, then he doesn't want...

Re: Remington 14 1/2 44-40
If the rifle is for sale, you should consider buying it. The prices on Model 14 1/2s are rising sharply while the Model 14s seem to be stuck at 4-8 hundred. Not only that, the 38-40s and 44REMs (44-40) are a lot of fun to shoot.
Good luck.

Re: Remington 14 1/2 44-40
After a certain date all receivers were marked Model 14. The hole in the ammo ind is also correct. The s/n should be about 96k or above, the date was about 1926 when the change was made to place the model on the side of the receiver. The caliber marking should say 44 REM, not 44-40.
