Model 14 questions?

Post by Olypenn22 »

Hello,

Picked up a Remington this weekend, a 22 inch barreled pump rifle in .30 Remington. My first Remington model 14, have some questions.

Rifle has no model markings on the receiver or barrel, last date on barrel is Nov 19, 1912. Has a shotgun style metal Remington UMC buttplate on a pistol grip stock. (could they be original to the rifle?) Front sights are Marbel sheard, rear are Marbel Gladstone Buckhorns. (could they be original to the rifle?)

Rifle receiver has been tapped for a side mount scope, has three holes in a row centered about 1 1/4 inch apart on the left side of the receiver. Any ideas as to the scope mount that fit it.?

Rifles serial number is C 372XX.
From info I have found here it appears to have been built towards the end of 1914.

thanks, olypenn22

The roll mark on the barrel ending in 1912 was used on guns 1912-1916.
No model on barrel =1912-1919 and 1924-1935
No model on receiver = 1912-1925
Metal shotgun buttplate = 1913-1920
Serial numbered receiver was made in 1914
The gun was produced between 1914 and 1916, the stock and buttplate are correct, the sights were probably replaced. Don't know which scope mount is needed. Your guess of 1914 is a good one.

Olypenn,

Not to long ago I was cruising the Gun auction sites and in one of them there was a model 141 or Model 14 with a strange flat steel side mount for an old Weaver Scope. It had 3 screws in a line attaching it to the receiver. For what it's worth.
