Re: What do I have (danish, but not the standard one).

This is very interesting too me for the simple reason that I am not a collector but an accumulator, which means that every firearm I own is meant to be used, so with this in mind the reworked, or modified rolling blocks are a great interest too me, and I suspect to many others out there in the shoot...

Re: Minnecounjou and his Remington

I'm certainly no expert on what guns Custer owned and used, but the only rolling block I can remember seeing him holding in a photo was a sporter with a tapered barrel, not a heavy full octagon such as TTC is holding in this photo. Not to say that Custer didn't own such a rifle, but this one sure lo...

Re: Reloading .43 Remington Spanish

I HATE WINTER!!! OK, got that out of the way, by the way, it snowed here last night, thus the sentiments on Winter. I haven't done much with the Rolling Blocks, I have three now, the original Argentine in .43 Spanish Remington, a .43 Spanish Refromado, built at Ovido, and a NY .50-70 Remington. I go...

Re: ?s on #5 RB Rifle with full Mexican Crest.

There are a number of different Rolling Block rifles being listed on the auctions sites from time to time, the most prominent are the Danish, Swedish, Argentinian, and the Mexican .43 Spanish Reformado, and all of these are antiques and can sell directly to the buyer, the Argentina and Ovido Arsenal...

Re: Another ID thread for a rolling block

In picture #6 it appears that there are marks on the side of the barrel in front of the breach that look like vice marks, if so then the chambering may not be standard to the action. It could just be that my eyes are seeing things.

Re: My grandfathers "buffalo gun"

What you have is a Saddle Ring Carbine, and was probably originally a military issue. As to caliber there are a few common rounds these were chambered for, .50-70, 7mm, 43 Spanish Remington, 43 Spanish reformado. Try using a caliper and measure the bore, that will give you a "rough" idea o...

Re: Reloading .43 Remington Spanish

Thanks for the comments guys. I have a bunch of new brass loaded up and once the weather will let me I will run a some through this rifle, then I'll have a better understanding of what my problem is. I had hopped that I could reload these without having to resize them. There is no sign of case stret...

Reloading .43 Remington Spanish

I have a Remington Rolling Block chambered for the .43 Spanish round, this is the bottlenecked cartridge not the Reformado, my problem is the neck on the fired cases will not hold a .439 bullet, they just drop right through, they work great in new unfired brass. I've tried to neck size the brass but...

Re: RB questions

That is a very fine looking rifle. I own several RB's in their original military configuration and love shooting them, but I've wished I could afford to have one of them redone in 45-70 and then I would restock it with a Hawken rifle style stock with barrel wedges to attach the front wood and the bu...

Re: #2 Rolling block project

Ok, having said what I did above I can understand exactly what you are saying about getting attached to a project like this and wanting to see it through even if it costs more than the finished product will be worth on the open market. My wife doesn't understand why I do this very same thing, but th...

Re: Remington No. 1 rolling block chambering

I don't know if the 43 Egyptian is difficult to load or not, but you can probably find all the reloading slupplies to get started at Buffalo Arms. They have a lot of brass for obsolete cartridges and some cast slugs as well. The difficult part will be rounding up a set of reloading dies. I don't thi...

Re: Remington Rolling Block Saddle Carbine, unknown origin

I wouldn't think it would be to difficult to modify the extractor so it will work right so long sa it fits and moves freely in the extractor Chanel like it should, all you would need to do is remove some metal along the inner area so it will fit up against the cartridge and then just remove the exce...

Re: Danish M-1867 Rolling Block extractor 11.7x51R

I don't own the model you are talking about, but do have two very nice Remington .43 Spanish Remington, and one not so fine .43 Spanish Reformado. I've done quite a bit of shooting with the .43 Spanish Remington ( Argentine model ) and most of the brass and bullets came from Buffalo Arms, and some o...

Re: 7mm Mauser cartridge question

Sorry it took me so long to respond to your question, I'm slow out of the gate on many things these days. I was going to tell you that my 7mm rolling block also has a flat faced breach and fires the 7x57 rimless cartridge, and does a very good job of it as well. There have been many comments on the ...

Re: #2 Rolling block project

It would seem to me that for the amount of money you are going to spend on this project you could find you a nice .22 rolling block already to go, and given what you said about the rifle it might be some what safer in the long run. They come up all the time on the auction sites and the prices aren't...
