1882 12 gage parts needed?

Post by brocluno »

Need parts for a Model 1882 12 gage. Right now I need a right hammer. Can be somewhat rough as this gun has some modest surface rust and moderate pitting on one barrel. Still want to get it running.

Eventually will come back with other needs I'm sure. Anyone have a similar part gun that's not working?

Any help greatly appreciated :)

I would not put money in this gun save your money for better condition gun or at least one that is all there. You could use your gun for parts.

Yeah, I'm thinking about send to Numerich so they can have a stock of parts based on what's left. Do you have one? Have you ever shot one?

Yes I have shot mine I have several Model 1882 Remington Plain and engraved..I have some parts..For the parts you need I would have to tare apart a better gun then you are saving the last 1882 hammer I sold was $100.00 parts are hard to find.

I have not been on this board long so I'm not sure I know the rules, but if anyone is interested in a Model 1882 parts "chassis", I can send/sell mine? If no one is interested, I'll sell to Numerich.

New to forum...Ummmm Am I missing something here? Brocluno needs a hammer, 2shooter replies that he would not put money into the gun then states that he sold a 1882 hammer for $100.00. Brocluno then is asked if would be interested in sell it. Brocluno said yes, for $25.00 plus shipping. What a deal...if the remaining hammer is worth $100.00 plus other parts on the gun are worth something, Welllll, I would suggest Brocluno sells the parts himself. As a collector of old Colts and Remingtons I find that when talking about values, it seems that a lot people understates the value for the other persons gun (gun dealers come to mind). The 1882 is a American classic and sure to appreciate and as it does parts will cost more and there will less available. With only 16.000 being mfg., and If you believe the 10% survival rate, only about 1600 remain.
My matching numbers 1882 will stay in my collection for a long time and when and if I ever decide to sell it I will ask a price that I think it's worth and not someone else suggested value.

No, you did not miss anything. I understand that the parts may be worth more than I said I'd sell it for. What you don't know is that it was in pretty tough shape. If a part was available, I thought what the heck, I'll see if it'll shoot reliably. Well the part was/is not. So I had two choices. 1.) deal with the folks here who are into old Remmies, or 2.) sell it to Numerich.

Either would have met my desire - that is to see that parts get into circulation for others who need to get their shooter going again. It was not about making money. It was about putting parts into circulation since there were not enough for me to get one going. It's more about keeping other shooters alive at this point.

If I had been offered the missing hammer for $100, I would have laughed to myself and sold the partial anyway. I can buy a used modern high pressure single shot for that kind of money :)
