I have a 1873 and 1882 with Damascus barrels that I shoot all the time. Yours looks like a shooter, not a wall hanger.

So, thanks to "jake" I found that there is an issue with the lifter. It should sit flat when the barrel is closed and it does not. When the barrel is removed, it's flat as can be!

So, when I remove the barrel i can see that there is a push rod in the action. That push rod seems to lock into a part on the barrel. For whatever reason, that push rod is not allowed to seat all the way when the barrel is attached. I wonder if the repair job on the front trigger guard is to blame? Jake says that screw could be interfering with the push rod.

So everyone knows, my dad got this gun in the 1960s. Since then all that has been done is some oil. Never been shot or otherwise altered.

However, as is the case with many early Remingtons, there are exceptions. In this case there is at least one '78 known with a Deeley & Edge forearm release and at least one '79 with a wedge attachment. In any event, you most likely have a '79.
Sir, what do you a value could be?

We normally don't do valuations because the gun is needed to be in hand. In any event I'm certainly not the person to ask. There are people on this site with much more knowledge than I have

I’ve been unsuccessful so far in finding a serial number list to date my “brand new” Model 17. I think it’s late twenties but not sure.
Serial number 52209 on receiver and barrel.
Thanks for any help someone can provide!!

The Model 17 receiver with serial number 55209 was put in work during December 1927. There should be a two-letter date code on the barrel, similar to this --
55611 02b 28-inch FULL, solid rib, DW D = Sept W = 1928.jpg

D = September W = 1928
