Another Rolling Block indentification

I believe I have a Remington Rolling Block 1 1/2 Sporting Rifle. It apoears as though it has been modified from 31 rim fire to what I believe is 38/55. As noted in the picture, the hammer
And part of the block appear to be a slightly different color and I suspect replacements It has serial number 3323 on the tang. When I purchased this rifle, it had no buttplate. I was given the buttplate that is on it but would like to have it replaced with the correct buttplate. Any information regarding this old rifle would be greatly appreciated.

Your Rolling Block rifle is not a #1 1/2 Model. The 1 1/2 models had flat sided receivers, and were thinner. Yours with the stepped side receiver is a #1 Sporting Rifle and was originally a .32 Long RF as they made no such cartridge as a .31 caliber. The #1 action is plenty strong for the rework to .38-55 and that's a great cartridge also. The barrel on your #1 has also been shortened likely when someone changed it to the .38-55 and wanted a fresh crown on the barrel. It shows it's 29.5" on your tape measure and barrels were either 28" or 30", but not 29.5".

Thanks for the info, any idea where to get an original buttplate and screws??

Vintage Grips sells copies of original hard rubber buttplates, but your stock has been modified for the Swiss offhand buttplate and it has a longer spur than the originals had. So it will require you to make a filler to make up the gap, and that wont be easy to blend in to hide the filler.

I buy oval head slotted screws at my local hardware store and blue them myself.
