M1885 Remington Lee extractor
The the "hook" on my rifle's extractor is broken. You can see in the pictures below the tip is broken and how there is nothing to engage the rim of the .45-70 cartridge. There is also a picture of what it is supposed to look like. Does anyone have an extra extractor? Has anyone had any luck with a weld repair or advice on how to fix it?

I've had numerous extractors built up or repaired using a tig welder to do so. They hold up great if the person doing the tig welding is skilled. Never have had any extractors fail after tig welding.
I just had the transfer bar on my Freund Sharps Improved breech block break, and I'm taking it to my gunsmith friend to have him tig weld it since nobody has the unique transfer bar that could be reworked to fit my Freund.

TIG weld repair is an option, provided you can find a real gunsmith, not just a parts changer.

Going to attempt a weld repair. Dimensions would be very helpful. I found this picture of an unbroken extractor. Anyone have an unbroken extractor they can measure? What is the measurement from the lug to the claw?
