Pre-Model 11 Remington?
I have a Remington autoloader. Looks like a Model 11, but the serial number marked just ahead of the well is 38. Upper left side of the receiver is marked 'Remington Arms Co, Ilion, NY, Browning patents................etc. The mark on the left rear of the barrel is 'FULL' and top of barrel is marked same as receiver. No other marks on the gun-anywhere.
Can anyone help me out as to when this was manufactured? OR at least get me connected with the right person that can help. Remington is no help they are not accepting phone calls (recording says they are closed). Thanks very much, Forrest

Re: Pre-Model 11 Remington?
Serial number 38 would be one of the earliest Remington Autoloading Shotguns to come to light. They first appear in the 1905-06 Remington Arms Co. catalog.
We would love to see some pictures of serial number 38.

Re: Pre-Model 11 Remington?
Here are some pictures. The barrel is marked 38 under the forearm as well. No rust, no pits. It does look as if there is the smallest of cracks in the forearm. Thank you so much for the information. I am going to list the item on Gunbroker. I have had the shotgun in my safe for more years than i can remember and as years go by i know i will never shoot it. I am sure someone can get some enjoyment from it as a collectors item. Thanks again for the help. I appreciate it very much. Forrest

Re: Pre-Model 11 Remington?
Wonderful. Thank you for posting the pictures. Too bad the gun was so badly buffed in refinishing.
Re: Pre-Model 11 Remington?
I agree with "Researcher" regarding the buffing and it also appears that the stock was also refinished somewhere along the way.

Re: Pre-Model 11 Remington?
So noted. Probably not worth much then? I'll throw it back in the safe.

Re: Pre-Model 11 Remington?
Hey Strider thanks for posting,
This helps clear up some confusion as to when the serialization of the Remington Autoloading Gun started. The factory records were never found or clear and there has been speculation in the past.
This is the first two-digit gun that I am aware of even though I expected the numbering to start with 1.
What exactly does the address on the barrel say?
Don't bury it too fast in the safe if you have a number in mind let me know.
I'd like to have it just to document some things for a possible RSA Journal Article that I have had on my mind for a while.
Thanks, Will

For those folks with an interest, here is a picture of the underside of the barrel:
Apparently this is an early number for the Model 11.

Re: Pre-Model 11 Remington?
I have what I think is a pre model 11 shotgun. I have an idea that this shotgun was mfd in 1905 based on other posts regarding a higher serial number 2xxxx being from 1906. Would like to confirm my assumption. I have reviewed the Remington factory logs and this serial number appears to be prior to the available log info. I attached 4 photos to assist in finding more info on this old gun. Any help would be appreciated.
