The serial number you provided is outside the range of what we know for Model 11 serial numbers. When the 3-shot version of the Model 11, “The Sportsman” was introduced in 1931, their serial number sequence began at 500000.

By 1937, Remington/DuPont began marking Model 11 and “The Sportsman” receivers the same, and on August 24, 1937, stopped the separate serial number sequence at 515506 for “The Sportsman” and began numbering them both in the regular Model 11 serial number sequence which was around 400000 at the time.

When the combined serial number sequence reached 499999 on August 7, 1943, they then jumped to 700000 and continued.

During WW-II, Remington produced a plain finished military version od “The Sportsman” –

With that style safety the gun was made prior to 1927

You transposed the first two digits in your original post 5285xx instead of the correct 25857x. So, your gun was in production during June of 1923.
