Remington Sportmaster 512?
Remington Sportmaster 512?
Hi all,
just a query, a friend of mine has recently bought a Remington
Sportmaster 512; a bolt-action rifle with tubular magazine in caliber
.22
I wanted to find out some more background info on the gun, but so
far I have not found anything on the internet. Could anyone help
me out?
Thanks.

I understand that the reminton sportmaster was produced from 1939 -1962. Is there any way to find out the exact date of production? What is the value of this rifle?

Debbie:
There is a barrel code on the left side of the barrel just ahead of the receiver. The month and year of manufacture can be determined by entering "Barrel Codes" in the Search RSA box on this home page.
The value depends on condition. They range from $100 to $175.

The codes are sometimes difficult to decipher. My guess is that your stamp is WH which would mean Aug, 1939. If so, your rifle should not have a grooved receiver and should have some case coloring on the bolt.
I have no idea what the other H is for. Many Remingtons have an extra letter. I suppose it is just to confuse us...
