The Third Rem-Thoughts… RSA President Roy Marcot 2013

Dear RSA Members,

Summer months are slow for gun shows in
America, and there is not much going on. But in early
May your Remington Society was well represented at
the NRA Annual Meeting in Houston,
Texas, by an exhibit of E. Remington
& Sons’ firearms from the
collections of RSA Vice President
George McAllister and member J.D.
Hofer. The guys worked extremely
hard building an exhibit that measured
20′ wide by 10′ deep! You
will see photographs of their exhibit
in this issue. The NRA announced
that more than 75,000 members and
guests attended the 5-day event!
McAllister and Hofer stated that
many thousands of those visitors
came through the Gun Collector’s
Exhibit area and went through the Remington Society
booth. Thanks, guys, for representing our organization
so well.

Leaders of the Remington Society have begun
helping the Remington Company to prepare for the
200th Anniversary of America’s Oldest Gunmaker in
2016. Remington is believed to be the oldest company
in America still making its original product! We are
pleased to help Remington with historical information
and images for what will be a massive advertising
campaign.

Your Remington Research Team travelled to the Remington plant in Ilion, New York this past June. This marked the 22nd year in a row that the team returned to Ilion to help Remington preserve their historical records.Team members are handpicked for their expertise in different areas of Remington history and types of firearms. Team members who traveled this trip included: Gene Myszkowski, Bob, Sue and Corey Creamer, Vin Ventura, Bob Hatfield, Garland Jackson, John Lacy, Bill Hansen, Jane Spellman and yours truly. While in Ilion we met the new
Remington plant manager, Paul
Merz. It was gratifying to see that he had an issue of
the Remington Collector’s Journal on his desk! Paul
has a warm feeling for the history that has been made
at “The Arms,” and has a true appreciation for the fine
work done by the men and women working there.

I hope to see you at the 17th Annual RSA Historical
Seminar at the Remington Ammunition Plant
in Lonoke, Arkansas in late August. Seminar Coordinator
Chip Kloos tells us that the event is 100% sold
out!

All my best,
