The Third Quarter 2002 The Last Word, by RSA President Leon Wier

Greetings RSA Members:

By the time you read this we will have already had our 8th Annual RSA Seminar in
Ilion. Now that the seminar is history I can only hope it will be remembered as
one of the premier RSA Seminars of all time… although it will have some stiff
competition from those in the past. Our visits to Ilion and to the Remington
manufacturing facility have always been very popular with our members, but one
cannot forget the two seminars in the Remington Ammunition Plant in Lonoke,
Arkansas (1995 and 2001) and that once-in-a-lifetime meeting in Cody, Wyoming (1997).

What’s next for the Remington Society? Well, in mid-September RSA will be hosting
the National Rifle Association’s 1 5th Annual Gun Collector’s Seminar in Albany,
New York. Since this is our first attempt at hosting one of the NRA’s gatherings
it would be nice if as many of our members as possible would attend. Most of the
nation’s premier firearm collectors groups will be represented and we certainly
want the Remington Society to be the gracious host I know we can be. I am certain
most of our members are also members of the National

Rifle Association, and attendance at this Gun Collectors Seminar would certainly
show your support for both RSA and the NRA.

Last year the NRA event was hosted by the Alaska Gun Collectors Association in
Anchorage, Alaska and, even at that distant location, there was a good turnout
of gun collector organizations. Surely we can equal or top the Alaska contingent’s
at a central location like Albany, New York. Featured in this 3-day event are
historical lectures, a tour of the Remington plant in Ilion, New York, a visit to
historic Watervliet Arsenal, and a walking tour of the destroyer USS Slater,
moored in the harbor near Albany.

Now to change the subject from this year’s RSA activities to next year’s Annual
RSA Meeting in 2003. We received a message from Wally Beinfeld giving the dates
for the Winter Antique Arms Show at the Riviera Hotel in Las Vegas. The show will
be held on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, January 17th, 18th and 19″‘, 2003, with
set-up on Thursday.

This means that we will conduct our RSA Board of Directors meeting at 5:15 PM on
Friday the 17″‘ and our Annual RSA Meeting will be held on Saturday the 18″‘ also
at 5:15 PM. We hope you will all mark your calendar and plan on attending our
Annual Meeting at one of the most outstanding antique arms shows in the country.

I know it is difficult for some of you to attend the various RSA activities, but
the Society needs the support of all members and one of the best ways to show
that support is to participate in our yearly events. Believe me, once you’ve a
ttended an RSA Seminar, or an Annual Meeting in Las Vegas, you’ll want to keep
coming back for more.

That’s about it for now. Hope to see you in Albany in mid-September, and in Las
Vegas in January.
