I have a Remington double hammer double barrel shotgun.
I close inspection just inside and underneath the barrels near the hammers reveals a number I believe to be the serial number. It is 100097.
Would that make this an 1894 Remington?
It is in excellent condition save a tiny chip at the end of the stock.
What can anyone tell me about the identification. Am I correct?
My gun looks very much like this : http://www.3rdmarines.net/REMINGTON%20M ... %20SXS.htm although based on my serial number it is hard to say if the gun pictured in the URL above is the same model as the one I have.
Thanks
The Double Hammer Remington 1889 or 1894

Remington Model 1889
The serial numbers on the Remington Model 1889 hammer doubles went over 100000 in 1900, at which time they realized the confusion with Model 1894 serial numbers and/or also brought out the Model 1900. So, Remington Arms Co. restarted the Model 1889 serial numbers at 200000 and started the Model 1900 at 300000. Semmer estimated Model 1889 serial numbers for the year 1900 being 97715 to 105000 and 200000 to 205934.

Assuming my 1889 is in excellent shape, what could its value be, roughly speaking? Any ideas?
