11-48 help needed

I recently picked up an 11-48 16 gauge. I'm unfamiliar with this type of gun. I got a copy of the owner's manual from Remington and notice it refers to a "felt wiper ring" inside the recoil spring. I don't see such an animal in there and can't be sure exactly where it would go. Anybody know if Remington still has this part and where it exactly sits? Thanks for any help.
