1858 .44 New Model

Post by drummer »

I have just purchased an original Remington .44 New Model Army percussion. The gun is very tight, all markings and inspector marks are sharp. No finish, but the bore is near perfect. Original grips fit tight, but show usual dings. My question is: I've had these before and know the threads should be visible at the end of the bbl. Mine are not. The end of the bbl. is smooth, no threads. The cylinder gap is near perfect. I know the gun has been 'cleaned', but it shows no internal wear, or signs of someone playing it. The bbl. serial number is 869XX. No number is present on the butt under the grips. Any ideas of when it was made, and were they made without the threads showing early in production? Thanks for the help experts! kensantanello@comcast.net
