Can you give any more information? Such as caliber, center fire, rim fire, percussion, action type, etc.
The Blue Book of Gun Values does not list a model 4S. They do list a model 4 as shown below:
NO. 4 REVOLVER
- cartridge .38 and .41 Rimfire or Centerfire cals., 5 shot, 2 1/2 in. round barrel, hard rubber, pearl or ivory 2-piece grips. Number produced debatable, 1877-88.
Grading 100% 98% 95% 90% 80% 70% 60% 50% 40% 30% 20% 10%
N/A $1,200 $900 $800 $700 $550 $500 $400 $300 $250 $200 $150
Add a small premium for Centerfire calibers.

The answer Old Fool gave you probably confused you. No doubt he thought you had a pistol since you posted in the RP (for pistol) post 98 section. Your 4S military model's value depends on condition and originality. A decent one might bring $500 or more; maybe $750. But... Are the sights original? Is all the wood there? Is the bayonet lug there? A no to any of these questions hurts value significantly.
