remington beals navy revolver

I have a Remington Beals Navy revolver serial #287. It doesn't have any cartouches or inspector marks though I read that the military apparently bought most of the 14,000 guns produced. Does anyone know anything about this model or can you direct me to a source so that I can research it further? Remington has no records from this period and suggested this site. I have hit many dead ends which seems unusual for a gun that was so popular with the Navy and cavalry. I would appreciate any and all help offered. My address is sbklf@yahoo.com. Thanks, Steve
