Remington 1875

Post by rdcavalli »

Can anyone help me date an 1875 Remington revolver? I believe it is a .44-40 (44 stamped on side of left grip near bottom). It is nickel plated - appears original- and has the small peg-like front sight. Barrel address is "E. Remington & Sons, Ilion, N.Y. U.S.A." and reads with the barrel pointing to the right. Serial number is 908 on both the inside grip frame and inside the trigger guard. There are two somewhat stylized letters that look like "j"s, one on the front of the cylinder and the other on the frame under the trigger guard. Grips appear original and appear oiled. I know these were numbered in batches, but I thought the front sight might be a help in dating. Unfortunately I have no Remington references in my library at this time. Thank you. Richard Cavalli
