40x Rimefire

Looking at buying this rifle 40x rimfire serial # 1543 on action and bolt
been told its app 1956 production?? and barrel should be 28" I measured from muzzel to front a receiver its 26" did I measure correctly. barrel does not seem like it has been cut back, maybe re-chambered ?
anyone have value onm a gun like this

Where did you measure from? Rear of chamber or where the barrel fits into the receiver?.
