700 BDL 338 win mag Identification
Hello All! I'm new to the forum, and just purchased my 3rd model 700 rifle. I found it at a local shop and couldn't pass it up. I have a few questions about the rifle that I can't figure out. The rifle was labeled as a BDL model, but the stock doesn't have the black caps and ivory spacer. Instead the caps are a darker wood than the rest of the stock. The receiver is ingraved as is the floor plate. It has the front and rear sights that the BDL would have had and the bolt will open with the rifle on safe. My main questions are the following, Is the stock original to the rifle and when was it made. If the stock is original to the rifle is this a special model BDL? The markings that I found on the barrel are the following listed as stamped on the barrel from left to right. First is something that looks like a leaf, then PT and finally AQ. The PT and AQ are not the same type print. I will try to post some pics if I can figure out how to. Sorry this is so long. Just trying to figure out what I have.

Well, you have a pretty nice rifle.
The "P T" date code translates to June of 1999.
I copied your picture of the rifle and enlarged it to get a better view. It appears to be a stock from the Custom Shop (rosewood fore-end tip, grip cap and stock reinforcement plugs). It's hard to tell what type or extent of engraving that is from the first picture. There were some rifles during the 1990s that had some roll engraving on them, but this doesn't look like any of those that I've seen.

No, I don't. I imagine they're some inspectors' marks, but nothing definitive.gv3rd wrote:Any idea what the AQ stamp is for behind the PT?
