Model 12 C stock?
I recently purchased a nice Model 12 C octagon barrell pump for $300. It looks and works fine. The stock and fore end appear to be original finish. However, all the other 12 C's I looked at online have the metal cresent butt plate and arched grip. Mine has a straight grip stock with a ?hard rubber? butt plate. I have seen this stock on the later 12 model's with the round barrell. Were there different stocks availiable for Model 12 C's or is mine most likely a replacement? And if so, was $300 a good buy or did I pay too much?
Re: Model 12 C stock?
Although anything's possible with Rem 22s, it's probably a replacement. See if there's a serial # stamped on the wood under the butt plate. If there is a # it should be fairly close (not exact) to the serial # on the gun. Also you should compare the serial #s on the inside and outside of the receiver to make sure the two halves of the gun started their life out together. No comment on the price. It's just too hard to tell without seeing the rifle although your price is about right for any old Rem that will still shoot. I recommend shooting standard velocity ammo in M/12s.
