I have a LNIB 870lw 28g, when I got it I was told it was unfired. What is the value I believe it is a 1969 gun. I got it for my son but I thin we are going a different direction (something more kid ding/dent friendly).
Another consideration is buy a second stock and forearm, and let him use it at the range. How much would shooting it effect its value? If we replace the stock what frame would interchange the 28ga 870 LW ?

Re: 870lw 28ga
The serial number is s3750xxJ I believe the "s" signifies 1969? and the "J" is 28ga is this correct?
In searching I haven't been able to find much information on the 870 in 28ga, weren't there very many sold compared to 1100's?

Here's the definitions for the prefix and suffix letters for the shotguns. The prefixes are a range of dates.floatinghat wrote:The serial number is s3750xxJ I believe the "s" signifies 1969? and the "J" is 28ga is this correct?

I'd be tempted to keep it and get a 20 gauge (Express) for the boy. The ammo is easier to find and less expensive.

Re: 870lw 28ga
Thanks Wulfman,
That is a route I was considering. The temptation to keep it is only pressured by the fact that I would like a 28ga SxS. What is the value of an 870 like this?

Re: 870lw 28ga
I have no idea and I doubt that anybody on the forum would venture to guess without inspecting it. Guesstimating "values" is not something that is done on this forum. You would need to do some searches on some auction sites and see if there was something that has sold in the recent past (or about to be sold to follow the bidding) to determine a dollar value.floatinghat wrote:Thanks Wulfman,
