Need help in confirming pistol I have is an 1888 Army.

I have a nickle plated Remington pistol that looks like the one described as an 1888 Army in

except mine has what appears to be ivory handles. The serial # under the handle grips is 430. The lettering on the top is E.REMINGTON&SONS.ILION.NY.U.S.A. The barrell is 5 inches to the frame and about 5 3/4 to the cylinder. I sent a picture to be added to the posting and can email anyone detailed pictures if desired. My first interest is in confirming that it is an 1888 Army and then a ball park value if possible. ischrodt@new.rr.com Thanks for any help you can provide.

A quick method that I use to verify the Model 1888 is the following.

Barrel address same as Model 1875.
Serial number on the underside of the barrel, trigger guard tang, loading gate, and grip frame left side.
Assembly # on bottom of rear portion of barrel.
Assembly # on forward portion of frame covered by ejector housing.
Barrel web same as Model 1890.
(The presence of the assembly number is the key information for me)

Don Ware's article in the 1st Quarter 2004 issue of the RSA Journal is an excellent source of detailed information on this revolver. Don was without a doubt, the most knowledgable authority on these Remington large frame revovlers and his article is great.

Thanks Mike. That all works. Plus I've been in an email and phone discussion with another society member and have confirmed that it is indeed an 1888. I appreciate this forum and have joined the society to support it.
