In 1973 I inheirited a 1894 Remington side by side (361914). I had it checked at that time, and was told it was not a damascus barrel. I have been using it for small game and trap.
This past fall the barrel release lever assist spring broke. With the help of a friend, we managed to create a new spring and get the gun working again. Many of the people I talked to felt the gun "must have" a damascus barrel, even though they never saw it. Now I am curious; how can I be sure? Is any documentation available?
Would Mr Semmer's book give any kind of parts breakdown?
Thanks.

First your remington sxs is not a 1894 it is a 1900 K grade. There are ways to tell if barrels are steel or damascus.Under the forend on the bottom of the barrels marked KD or KED stands for K grade Damascus or K grade Ejector Damascus Orginal damascus barrels are brown with damascus pattern steel barrels blue no pattern.
