1864 Remington Rolling Block

Post by trauma48 »

I was given a 1864 Remington Rolling Block, and a few other black powder shot guns etc. The Rolling Block has been in an attic for ohhhhhh lets see, GOD Only knows. It has a full stock with two rings. P FCW on right side of reciever, Remingtons Lions NY USA, May 30th-Nov. 15th 1864 April 17th 1866 onleft side of reciever. There is a 2 or a N on the top of the stock retaining ring closest to the breech, and a 2 marked on top of the butt plate. With butt removed on the left side of the butt stock mounts ( guess thats what you'd call it) top plate there is the numbers 343 and on bottom plate 4303. On the right side top plate there is the numbers 75. These are the ony markings I could find. I've looked at a few article on the Naval cadet model. But there is some differences. This rifle only has the V notch rear sight in the top of rolling block breech. The barrel has never had a adjustable rear sight or even drilled out to mount one. You look down the rear sight and you can't see the front sight because of the full stock ring keepers are in the way. The hammer seems to be extra long. Barrel length is 26 1/2 " not including the breech, w/ breech 27 3/4". Total rifle length is 42 1/2". I can't seem to find the cal. but I must say if this is what I think it may be, WOW . I have a 1958 remington 725 adl 30-06 that pacts a punch, I couldn't imagine what this rolling block would do LOL. I do have pic's if needed. (trauma48@yahoo.com) Thank you in advance of any and all help that is recieved. Gary
