Model 1100 barrel/receiver mating question?

Post by VA Lawdog »

I was at a gunshow this morning and I saw a 1100 with a standard receiver mated to a 12 Gauge Magnum 3" shells marked barrel. Seller says he shoots 3" shells in this gun all the time without any trouble and the 3" shells will clear the ejection port with ease. Is this correct and is it safe? Any/all replies welcome. The only differences between a 3" 1100 and a 2-3/4" one are the barrel's chamber, the action sleeve, and the markings, and a recoil pad on the Magnum. The Remington 3" Steel Shot barrel for 2-3/4" receivers is the same as any other 3" barrel, except for the RemChokes. I used one of those on my 2-3/4" 1100 shooting everything, including some steel, for 20 years, but I did keep a close watch on the buffer.
What could have happened... did.
