I have a model 1100 that I got from an old boss at least 20 years ago.
It is serial number 393***M, it is market Magnum on the bolt side of the receiver.
I have a few questions.
Could this be the original barrel ? I never thought to ask, it is marked "2 3/4 or shorter.." but from what I have read all mags had 3" barrels?
How old is this gun?
I doubt it has more than a couple of boxes of shells through it, he said he hadn't shot it much. I haven't. As I moved....kids....wife cancer.....life.... Now I would like to start hunting upland again. General value? couple of specs of rust on side of the v-rib, handling marks on the furniture. Removing the barrel everything looks new including the little sticker that shows the order of the "o-rings"
Choke is Mod. is it ok for non toxic shot and what loads?
I know I have to shoot it but should I expect it to cycle med to light loads?
Any thoughts or recomendations?
1100 Mag w/ 2 3/4 barrel ?

That is not the original barrel. Original was 3". With the 2-3/4" barrel you should be okay for all 2-3/4" loads. I would not shoot larger than #2 steel pellets thru that fixed choke. You can get 2-3/4" or 3" extra barrels with RemChokes, those would let you shoot anything.
I would think it would be fine with 1-1/8 ounce lead loads - the cheap promotional loads, if it is it properly cleaned and maintained.
I have serial #339***M, and I would say your gun is probably from 1966 or '67. I paid $450 for mine with the original barrel last year, and it is 98%+, so I would guess in the shape described yours would go $300 to $350. If someone like me wants an 1100 waterfowl gun (and there are more than a few of us out there), all one has to do is put a Remington 3" Steel Shot barrel on a gun like yours and they are in business. There are very few differences in reality between a 'regular' and a 'magnum' Model 1100, but the biggie is the Magnum action sleeve, and the only way to get one of those anymore is on a magnum gun.

What could have happened... did.
Re: 1100 Mag w/ 2 3/4 barrel ?
Thanks for the information. Some what surprising that the barrel isn't original, but oh well the mod. barrel is of more use for upland. Now to go out an shoot it
