I inherited a 12ga 30" 2-3/4" full choke 1100 from my father. He once told me that the receiver can shoot 3" shells and that I just needed to buy a new barrel for it to shoot the 3" shell. Is this true? Is there a way to shoot 3" shells from it.
Edit: I have been using this for waterfowl and have been shooting steel shot from it, is this ok

will my 1100 shoot 3" shells
Re: will my 1100 shoot 3" shells
You can buy a Remington 3" chambered Steel Shot barrel, which is specifically designed to allow 3" steel loads from 2-3/4" 1100 receivers, and shoot all you want. I would not shoot steel thru a fixed full choked barrel.
The 1100 receivers are the same except for the markings. The magnums have different barrels with different porting, and a different action sleeve.

What could have happened... did.
