Model 25 in .25-20

Post by BigWhup »

I have a 1923 Model 25 that the steel is basically brown on and the stocks dirty and dark. Basically a classical old patina.

Is there any valuation reason not to refinish the wood and have the steel reblued? I received the rifle as a gift years ago and I have decided it really needs or rather deserves to be redone as long as there are no value concerns.

I am not expecting to want to shoot it much and not looking to sell, just want to pass it along in better shape than it is now, but don't want to screw up the finish if more valuable as is. (watching too much Antique Road Show, I guess!).

If I understand correctly, the carbine is 18" barrel and Model 25R? This is plain Model 25 with about a 24" barrel.

Thanks for your input.

A rifle with honest use, and patina shouldn't be refinished EVER.

Refinishing ALWAYS hurt COLLECTORS value. Even a model 25. The standard 25 is not a rare gun. If you just plan on keeping it and not worried about value the refinish it.
