From your description, it sounds like a Model 10.

Here's a link to download the manual for that model.

I BELIEVE that the only two bottom-eject pump-action shotguns that Remington made were the Model 10 in 12 ga. and the Model 17 in 20 ga.

thanx! I aalso believe that this is a model 10, although it is not marked as a specific mod number or grade, I also understand that being marked "Remington Arms Company" places the build date prior to 1910, I am trying to determine build year for s/n U 17223 :)

There was a third bottom dumper Remington pump gun, the short-lived Model 29 that replaced the Model 10 for a couple of years before the Model 31 took the field.

Your gun was introduced as the Remington Repeating Shotgun in the 1908-09 Remington Arms Co. catalogue. On some parts lists and the February 15, 1910, price list they call it the Model 1908. Then after the company became Remington Arms-Union Metallic Cartridge Co. in 1911, they began calling it the Model No. 10. So, if it says Remington Arms Co. on it, it was only made in 1908, 1909 or 1910.

Thanks for jogging my memory......had forgotten about the Mdl. 29. It was only made from 1930 to 1933.

I just recived a model 8 12 ga. shotgun. I was told that it was bulit for just two years (1908-1909) before they made some small changes and called it the model 10. The changes were the stock and a flap inside the reciver, may be more? I can find anything in writing.
