remington 141 carbine info

Post by pumpgun »

does anyone have any info on the 141 carbine? i acquired one that is in real good, original condition in 35 caliber, barrel code kuu which appears to be may 49. it is drilled and tapped for a side receiver mount with 4 holes. the screws in the holes appear to match the bluing and it is also drilled and tapped on top and has a scope on it. does anyone know if remington drilled and tapped these from the factory? or does anyone have any more info that they would care to pass on, such as source of a late 40's rem catalog or dealers info. i read the excellent write-up in one of the recent RS mags on the 14 and it really helped me with my 14 identification. i can't get enough of the 14's and 141's especially the carbines. they are the favorites out of my collection.

thanks in advance.

I am very interested in the 141 carbine that you have. As far as I know there were no carbine barrels made for the Model 141, only left over carbine barrels from the Model 14 were installed on the 141s until the old barrel supply was exhausted. The 25 and the 35 calibers were exhausted prior to 1939 and the 30 and 32 barrels were gone by about 1942. All of these barrels had the 18 1/2 inch length and the integral front ramp.
Nothing says that a 141 rifle could not have been cut off and made into a carbine. I would like more info on the gun, serial number, date code and disposition number if it has one following the date code, such as a #3, barrel length, roll marking containing patent dates, model number on barrel if present for starters. I doubt that the holes for scope mounting were done at the factory. You can email me at Kenblauch@aol.com and I will be happy to help you.

I think that pumpgun and I agree that his gun was not a factory produced carbine. I would like to hear from members who have 141 carbines and would be willing to share information about them. Thank you pumpgun for the fine exchange of information we had today. Kenblauch@aol.com
