Mismatch bolt on 700 CDL 30-06 Ltd. Ed. 100th Anniversary

I bought a new 700 CDL 30-06 100th Anniversary rifle. I brought it home and noticed that the bolt number (##21) is only few numbers off from the serial number on the rifle (##32).

Will this increase or decrease the future value?

Does it make it more or less collectible?

Is this common?

Has anyone experienced this.

I don't think the collectors value is really high anyways. I would definatley check it out to make sure that is normal practice that the bolt may not match. That could be a dangerous problem if you were to shoot it.

I suggest you contact Remington and ask them. If the rifle was really new (from the original dealer) when you bought it, you're probably fine, but it's best to get the info from the source; Remington. Please let us know what you find out.

I would say this is NOT common or proper in any respect. Check with where you got the rifle to make sure someone did not inadvertently switch bolts while looking at two rifles. As a retail worker in a firearms store 20+ years ago, I learned to never show someone two of the same gun at the same time. Ruger and Sako rings would vanish, magazines disappeared, shotgun barrels would be mixed and firearms placed back in the wrong box. Bolts have to be heasdspaced to the specific firearm and therefore should not be used if this mismatch occurs. I passed up a beautiful rifle, 45 years old; looked brand new, but the numbers didn't match. Act quickly. The other rifle may be on the other side of the country by now.

I would go back to the retailer and also question Remington.
It may or may not be a safety issue, but I'd rather have a new gun with ALL matching #'s.
