to crimp or not to crimp

It sometimes depends on the rifle. Say say do, some say don't. Try it each way and see if there is any difference. I have an older Krico 400 Match rifle that likes no crimp as the chamber is very tight but my 788 shoots the same each way.

good day all:
i was just reloading some .222 cartridges,and wondered if i would get better accuracy out of my rem 788 if i crimped the rounds.
20 gr h4198 50gr hornady spsx.

any ideas ??

I don't know what you're trying to do, but Hornady doesn't even make a 50 gr., .224 dia. bullet with a cannelure.
If you're trying to crimp a case to an un-cannelured bullet, you're making a big mistake, in my opinion. Both accuracy and case life would probably suffer.

In the 40+ years I've been handloading/reloading, the only rifle cases I've crimped are the ones that go into tubular magazines, and then using only bullets that had cannelures.
