121 Smooth Bore
121 Smooth Bore
This one is very specific. Remington made a variety of 121s in smooth bore. From what I could flind there were five variations from smooth bore, routledge bore and skeettrap bore. I can't seem to find specific information. The one in question is marked "smooth bore" and has a 25" barrel and made in 1949. This would seem to make it a skeettrap. My reasearch indicates that these were made to Loewi specs but I don't know what these specs might be. Anyone have any information.
Re: 121 Smooth Bore
We obtained that information from Remington records and put it in the book exactly as per the records. I tried to find out what "Loewi" stands for, but no luck. I have never seen, nor heard of a Skeettrap marked M/121, but Remington records say they were made. My guess is that that concept was scrapped before production.
There are two different barrel lengths. The early ones marked SMOOTH BORE are bored straight through with no expansion to .40. All the others that I have seen carry the Routledge configuration.

Re: 121 Smooth Bore
Thanks. The information I found was from The Hitory of Remington Firearms by Roy Marcot on page 74. It indicates that skeetrap models have a 25" barrel which this one does.
Re: 121 Smooth Bore
The SB barrel length was 23 1/2" until 1947 when it was lengthened to 24 1/2". There are some exceptions, but barrel length does not indicate which variation one might have.
