My new Model 81

Post by cwo4uscgret »

I've been looking at it for a long, long, time - was $500 for almost a year.

Two years ago I bought a Remington Model 8 in .35 Remington. Today I bought its newer brother - a Remington Woodsmaster Model 81 in .300 Savage. Not a very rare gun however I'm having a problem identifying the scope and mount.

The mount is a Paul Jaeger, Jenkintown, PA sliding mount; two piece. One piece in on the left side of the receiver, the other on the scope. Nice mount, solid, I read a little about the mount but not much. Now the scope info: It is marked, on the adjusting ring blocks, All Weather; on the Bell 2-1/2 Power; and in the middle of the barrel - The Lyman Gun Sight Company, Made in U. S. A. Middlefield, Conn US Patent No. 2078858. To the right of this in block letters: ALASKAN 6713.

What do I have?

serial number16,914

nice forestock wood

With an instore credit for a consignment sale of a knife, this package was $196 out the door. That's a Lyman Alaskan Scope in a Paul Jaeger dovetail side mount...

Anyone have any idea when the scope was made? The date code on the rifle has it made in June 1941. Oh - I paid $192 for the package (plus a $172 store credit from a consignment knife they sold for me)...
