I have a 24" 700 Varmint Synthetic with matching box.
It is chambered in .223 and I believe has the HS Precision stock. (How do I tell?)
Anyhow, all the blue books and anything I can find online tells me this should be a 26" barrel.
It is a measured 24" and the box is marked 24".
Date code of "OM" tells me it is '92 manufacture.
What do I have here?
Thanks in advance.

New for '92's had 24 inch barrels. Is your stock black with white flecks? If yes, then it is the nice original stock.

Yes, black with grayish flecks.600RemGuy wrote:New for '92's had 24 inch barrels. Is your stock black with white flecks? If yes, then it is the nice original stock.
I can post pictures later.
So is there any benefit to the 24" over the 26"?

No worries in 223, IMHO. Rem.40 bench rest rifles came with 20 inchers.

my brother has the same rifle as you have...he bought it new in '93...a 24" VS in 223....not sure when they went to 26" barrels....

If I were to sell this what would be a good asking price (with and without the Leupold VXII 4-12X40AO)?
