Ribbon checkering

Sometime before that.travis301 wrote:Thanks. Did the early "flat" style safety also change the same time when Remington went with the ribbon checkering? I dont recall ever seeing a flat safety on a ribbon checkered gun.
I have a 700 in .30-06 that was made in July of 1968 with the rounded safety. I bought it new, so I know that part of it hasn't been changed. It also had the pre-'69 ADL checkering. It was also my first "big game" rifle.
On the other hand......as I said, it started out in life as an ADL, and some years later I acquired a "ribbon checkered" stock and even more years later I finally acquired a hinged floorplate and converted it into a BDL. It's a tack-driver, but I've done a little tweaking to the bedding (not glass) and the trigger pull was professionally adjusted to 30 oz.

Re: 700 BDL Checkering
I'm not sure, so am tagging this onto this thread.....
Cut checkering (non-skip line), how long was that done on BDL's, and what years?
I had a .243 and a .300 winmag both with that type of checkering.
I thought that was around '74 (from discussions back in early 80's, which could have been incorrect).

Re: 700 BDL Checkering
The last year for the "ribbon checkering" was 1973. The straight-line checkering started in 1974 and ran to '77 or '78 (I'm missing the '78 catalog). Skip-line checkering started in either '78 or '79 (it is shown in the '79 catalog).

Re: 700 BDL Checkering
I have a 1974 BDL 22-250 with the solid checkering and I've had two BDL 30-06's from 1980 and 1981 with solid checkering. They must have phased it in over a few years...maybe as they used up stock inventory?
