I bought a Model 8 in 35 Remington a couple of years back. It has a four digit serial number (16xx) stamped on the bottom of the receiver between the fornt of the magazine and the back of the fore end. It has a straignt butt stock (no pistol grip) and a Marble front sight and a Lyman pepsight mounted on the tang just behind the receiver. The butt stock has been modified by a previous owner who cut out the crescent shaped end and metal end plate and added an old Pachmayr recoil pad. The rifle doesn't have "Model 8" stamped on it anywhere, but it is a Model 8. I read where the earliest Model 8's did not have a model stamp. Can someone tell me when it was made? Any help in finding out when it was made would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Ray
When was my Model 8 made?
Re: When was my Model 8 made?
According to Henwoods book, your Model 8 should be 1906. These early models should have the caliber designation on top of the receiver ring that was hand engraved. Good luck!
