shotgun id needed

Post by guy »

hi i am new to this site. im not sure how it works but here goes. i have an old single barrel shotgun that the seller said was pre 1900. it is very simple . on the barrel it says onlyl Remington Arms Co. Ilion NY USA. the serial nbr of the barrel and other metal part where the barrel attaches are the same 6 48 41 and the nbrs on the wooden parts also match 6 43 41. also on the trigger part that the barrel attaches to but on the opposite side of the serial nbr is stamped 24 66 in finer letters. the butt has only the remington arms co crest. the gun is very simple with no safety. only the lever to cock it and the top lever to break it open to load or unload. i am curious what year and model it is. any help with the terms for the parts i described is appreciated. i said i am a novice.. thx

Shotgun ID

Your shotgun is one of Two Models. It is what we call a side cocker and is either a No, 3 ( 1893 model made from 1893 to 1908 ) or a No. 9 ( 1902 model; made from 1902 to 1912) . The No3 has a push button release to take off the forerarm whereas the 9 has a screw to remove the forearm. The 3 uses an exractor to remove the spent shells whereas the 9 has an auto ejector. The 3 came in 10,12,16,20,24 and 28 gauge The 9 came in 10, 12, 16 and 20 gauge. Hope this answers your question. Jay Huber RSA huber7774@bellsouth.net

Remington No. 3 or 9 shotgun?

I have an old single shot remington with the push button foregrip release and side cock (not functioning). I would like to find out more about it. Numbers punched in fore gip and block match 1368 and 7578. Do these mean anything?
