Help With Barrel on Remington 12A

I have recently inherited a Remington 12a pump action .22. I had a gunsmith look at the barrel. He tried to clean it up, but he says it is unshootable. What is my option to getting this gun in good working order. I've tried looking for a barrel with good riflings, but so far, I've not been successful. Any thoughts?

You can have the barrel relined, but I would just buy another model 12. Why did he say it was unshootable?
