700 Classic

Post by Serb »

I dont know if this is possible, but does anyone know the manufacture dates (year to year) and the serial numbers (xxxx to xxxx) of the 700 Classic that had 1)iron sites and 2) no black end cap?

I'm starting a search for a straight Classic (not a BDL or ADL) in .243, but I like the iron sites and I don't like the end caps they have on them now like the deluxes. This gun would have a solid color wood stock.

Can be ballpark figures

Tried Remington, to no avail.

Any help is appreciated

Sincerely and Masonicly,

One in 243 with sites would have to be a first year of production rifle in the A65XXXXX serial number range. I had one in 22-250 for a brief time and had to pull it out numerous times to show the site holes filled with filler screws. Smoked a lot of earth pigs near my buddy's ski chalet at Devil's Glen, Ont.

600,

Thank you for the reply. Do you know the year they discontinued putting the irons on them?

I think it may depend on what caliber it's chambered for. I have one from 1988 in .35 Whelen and it has open sights.

Sorry. What I meant was the 1978 classics where the only ones with open sites. The early years had classics in a few calibres unlike towards the end when they were only in one calibre. Different calibres in the later years did come with sites, but only one calibre per year. Anyway, you need to find a first year rifle-1978 to get sites in 243. I believe they came in 22-250, 243, 6mm, 7 Mag and 30-06 that year; just a few to temp us with. I did love the stock and the light barrel in 22-250, but hated the muzzle blast for my mostly short ranges. I can't find the fellow I sold it to anymore but I know he enjoyed it also. The sites went on my 541 which came drilled and tapped for, but never with, factory sites???
