Howdy folks. I'm brand new on this forum and hope somebody can help me. I'm a gunsmith in Washington State specializing in cowboy style guns. Mostly for the Cowboy Action Shooting folks. I am fixing a Model 10 shotgun as a favor for one of my regular customers and ran into a problem. The action is jammed half open, half closed.
I've had it apart a few times while trouble shooting it. Replaced the bent mag. tube, cleaned about 96 years of dirt and dried oil out of it, and twsted it. It was inconsistent on cocking. I went back to the trusty NRA guide and found a little spring under the trigger that was missing. I cut one to about what it looked like it should be. And again. And again. Each time I had to semi dissasemble the action. When I finally got a spring that appeared perfect under the trigger, the action half closed and locked up tight as a drum.
I've poked and pushed. Hammered and swore a bit, but it's locked solid.
Does anybody know of a way to open the action when it is locked this way. Can't return the gun the way it is. Hate to throw it in the lake. It's a nice old antique.
Thank you, Stan Couzens
