Information Reminton 22 Octagonal barrel

Post by briandeacon »

I have just received an old Remington 22 rifle. It has an octagonal barrell approximately 24 inches long. has a metal butt plate and is a pump with a tubular magazine. The last patient date on the barrael is April 16, 1912 and serial # looks to be " RW 304855.
On the bottom of the barrel there are some letters stamped .... looks like " Y Y 3" and then right up by the end close to the receiver is stamped " D 50 ". Can anyone tell me when this gun was manufactured, any any perenant information. It's really short and I'm thinking maybe a kids gun???? Appreciate any information that you may be able to provide ......... thanks Brian

It sounds like you have a Remington model 12-C. The short factor I don't know about. The 12-C was ussually a little bigger then a youth rifle. Maybe modified in some way. Send a photo. Your YY3 stamping is a date that it was sent back to the factory for repair. Check the manufacture dating section on the homepage for your repair date. Your other stampings are just inspector and proof marks.

The date of manufacture was 1915. A 24" barrel and a metal butt plate sounds like it's original; pretty big for a kids gun.

Thanks guys for the information, you're great. The gun is 41 1/2" long and has had probably a million shots fired throught it. I took it apart yesterday and cleaned it up. The action is quite worn and has trouble feeding shells .... fairly sloppy. Do you know of any place where I might obtain some parts which might be better than what I have ???? Any help appreciated. I new to this so not sure how I attach pictures, but will try ....... thanks Brian
