Model 11 stock/forearm refinish

I refinished my model 11 serial 140XXX using the old style rust bluing and it turned out absolutly beautiful. Now I would like to refinish the wood. I soaked the wood in acetone to remove the old finish and soaked in oil. What is the proper way to put the new finish on? I was told to hand rub a mixture of tongue oil and turpintine (between 20 to 30 coats and a light sanding every fifth coat). Can anyone tell me the best way to achieve as near a original finish as possible? Thanks for your time.
