Remington 14 1/2 Questions
Remington 14 1/2 Questions
Hi All, I have Remington 14 1/2, 44-40 cal. made in 1914 that is missing it's buttplate and has an incorrect one installed. The stock has not been cut.My question is , would this have had the metal shotgun style plate or being of such an early manufacture, a hard rubber plate? Also, it has a Canadian proof on the barrel. Is it true some of these were sent to Britain via Canada to be used in world war 1? Thanks!!
Re: Remington 14 1/2 Questions
I've owned one of these and have seen a few others. All have had the hard rubber plates. There is one on display at the Imperial War Museum in England. I also agree with 141 that the inspections were done by Canadians at the plant. These rifles were sold as surplus and are found with the double broad arrow stamp in the stock.
