Model 12c shell extraction problem

Post by rhager1 »

I'm replacing a broken firing pin on a model 12c, and the replacement part is a little different than the old one. The original has a notch in the side of it, and the new one doesn't, so I can't install both of the firing pin pins. It looks to me like this one will work, but I was wondering if someone knew a little more about this model than I do. I tried to attach a photo but the file was too big.
Thanks in advance Rhager1

What is the serial # of your M/12??? Two different ones were used during the production run.

Your tip of your firing pin should be nearly round. Earlier ones were flat (sometimes called square). If you have the right one, some fitting is often needed.

The new firing pin does not have the notch that the pencil is pointing to, so I can't install the 2nd pin through the breech block. I just want to be sure that the gun will be safe.

I took my 12c to the firing range the other day after replacing the firing pin & extractor. The good news is the difference in the firing pins was not an issue. However after firing off a couple of shots, the shells would not extract from the barrel. The new extractor was gripping the shells great but would not pull them out. I was using standard velocity bullets, would subsonic help with this problem, or is something else wrong with this rifle? I don't plan on using this gun alot, just wanted to get dads old rifle in working order.
Any help is appreciated.

What does your bore look like.is it possibly dark with some corosion. If you have to much barrel fouling buil up you will cause to much pressure to build up behind the bullet and in front of the casing causing your case to swell. If you case swells the extractor is not made to force a case out.

I cleaned the bore with a rope type cleaner before I went to the range, and after firing only 3 rounds the barrel does look dark & dirty. Do I need to clean it some other way?

Have you taken a good look at the chamber?

If your bore has enough fouling or lead build up maybe corosion a bore snake will not be enough. Outers makes a electric bore cleaning system that may help. I have never used it, but some people say it works great if you follow directions. I believe Midway sells them for about 100.00 to 115.00.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'm going to give the bore a good cleaning and I'll let you know what happens.
