I am looking for any information on a rolling block No. 4 I have recently acquired.
Serial No. 149264
Caliber 32 rim fire
Take down - lever type
Octagonal barrel
has a tapered rear sight inlet in barrel, all I have seen have an adjustable rear sight.
The barrel is in very poor shape, the tang has been broken and pinned and welded. I have found several places that have parts but am considering a re-barrel to .22. What are some experiences with this gun / conversions.

Re: rolling block No. 4
Well... Your M/4 was made in 1902, give or take a year. Remington records for that era are not exact.
The conversion depends on how attached you are to the rifle. You will need to spend quite a bit for the conversion, then you have a rifle that was intended for standard velocity ammo only. If and when the lever take-down system loosens up, there is only 3/4 turn of adjustment. After that, the action remains loose...
I suggest you hang it on the wall as-is. It's still a neat old gun! Then buy a shooter.

Re: rolling block No. 4
Thanks for the reply, I have heard it both ways as far as a conversion. It is a nice gun but was badly abused and I was looking for options. I think I will go ahead and finish it pretty and hang it. Thanks again.

Re: rolling block No. 4
Yes it does have the Remington Arms Co. on the barrel along with the serial number.
