Tig Weld pits in rb no 1 frame?

Post by Andrew Sinkleris »

Hi I have inherited a project using a BP ctg rolling block frame with a new chambered barrel for 38-55. There are some fairly deep pits in the rear of the frame near the trigger guard. Is it possible to touch these with a tig weld and file them flat without doing damage to the integrity of the receiver? Any advise will be greatly appriciated.

Yes, a tig weld is the way I do them. Be sure not to cool the welds with a wet rag after welding or they can harden the metal. Let it air cool and then you can polish or file off the welds.
I've had hammers, breech blocks, and actions all tig welded on before and no problems at all.
