Hi Everyone. Long time lurker, but finally have a question that has me stumped, unless I missed something somewhere.
I have the family Model 14 in .32 Remington with a serial # of 104xxx which according to the Ken Blauch book on the Model 14 puts it squarely in the 1928 year. However, the date code on the left side of the barrel is CU, which would be April 1927. On the right side of the barrel under the REP proof mark is a "W", which would represent 1928, but it was always my understanding that anything on the right side of the barrel is strictly proofing.
All features of this period are present.
Thoughts?
Another Model 14 Serial Number
Re: Another Model 14 Serial Number
I keep a database on model 14s with information on 3700 guns. it shows most in the 104,000 range as built in 1927 and some in 1928. Remington did not build in serial number order and seems to have used a method of grabbing receivers at random and assembling a rifle. I had a 1914 serial number that was built in July, 1925.......tom

Re: Another Model 14 Serial Number
Thanks. This makes sense after seeing later in the book by Mr. Blauch that there were serial numbers out of sequence with build dates such as yours years off.
Thank you!
