I have a Remington 11-87 with two barrels, one being a shorter "light contour". Well, the blue had been wearing off the barrel in places and it looked like shit, so I decided to remove it by soaking the barrel in vinegar. It worked out pretty well, there were a few spots left here and there but I oiled it up and put it away for another day. Well, that day came many years later: today. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with that barrel, but it doesn't look too bad just bare metal. Also, since it's been a while since handling the gun, I took a look at the manual and ran across this statement (see attachment): "WARNING FOR MODEL 11-87 LIGHT CONTOUR 12-GUAGE BARRELS. WARNING: DO NOT overbore or polish the barrel of your Model 11-87 LIGHT COUNTOUR Barrel shotgun. The weight reduction in the barrel is achieved by reducing the outside profile to the minimum SAFE dimension. Any additional reduction in the barrel wall thickness may make the barrel unsafe to fire., and further use could result in serious personal injury."
Had no idea that removing blue coating could make the gun unsafe. What do you guys think?
11-87, stripped the blue on a light contour, I guess the manual says not to
